'The Daughter' to compete at Spanish Filmfest

TEHRAN, Jul. 19 (MNA) – In its latest international presence, Iran’s 'The Daughter' will compete at Valladolid Film Festival in Spain.

Directed by Reza Mirkarimi, The Daughter recently could win the top prize at the 38th Moscow International Film Festival in Russia.

It has now registered to attend the Spanish event which is scheduled to be held on October 22-29.

The Daughter narrates the life of Mr. Azizi who leads an uneventful family life in an oil town of southern Iran. One day, his daughter Setareh, much exasperated by her father's authoritarianism, announces she is off to Tehran which is met with his father’s objections as the engagement celebrations of Setareh's younger sister are taking place simultaneously. This act of disobedience sets in motion a series of perturbations that upset the calm tranquility of the paterfamilias.

Valladolid International Film Festival, also known as Seminci, is one of the oldest and most consolidated in the whole of Europe. It is held annually in Valladolid, Spain since 1956. Nowadays the festival is regarded as one of the most important in the specialty of independent film and auteur film.
